So, today we had an appointment to do her nails, heartworm testing, medicine for heartworm, and get her microchipped. We had all those things done and later today we get a call about the testing and it came back a strong positive for heartworm. My heart broke when I heard the Doctors voice on the phone and not one of the girls. I felt like it was a call about Bunnybear (Cancer took him from us) all over again, it had to be bad. It was. I’m super scared and concerned about giving her the prevention meds if they’re dangerous when positive, but it’s the only treatment. I called another vet to question it and was told the same thing. It was cheaper but only a little and they weren’t doing the x-rays and stuff. So, I will stick with DAH. They’re my favorite place to take the pets, we love Amber! Especially, Justice. I don’t think she saw her today, though.
Anyway, we’re going to struggle to pay this. Especially the bigger two parts. I just can’t believe she tested positive. If you can help out we’d be so grateful and Justice would be too, she may not realize it, but she would be. She’s on preventative and will start antibiotics tomorrow, I think that’s what it is. It’s called doxycycline she takes it twice a day for four weeks. You can see the PDF on the page below.
As I read so many things online it’s scary! I hate myself for delaying this process of prevention. We just didn’t have the extra money with all the other stuff. Now, we really won’t have money, but I’m going to try and get this done. The directions show she will have to be rested and leash walked for a while (like 8 weeks). Here’s why!
Enforced Rest is ESSENTIAL! Positively NO Strenuous Exercise for 8 weeks! The heartworms will die over the next 6 weeks. As they die and are broken down, pieces of them could lodge in other parts of the body’s blood vessels, causing unnecessary complications–if your pet’s activity is too strenuous.
That is horrible! Even after her training she is still out of control and doesn’t listen. So, this will not be fun, I’m going to be scared constantly about it. She has no idea what’s going on or know’s how serious this is, thankfully. But, I do… and I will be sick and scared enough for both of us.
All I know is she is my Unicorn I didn’t even want another dog and we got her anyway and she’s MINE, now and I love her! Even though I’m allergic to her!
Please donate and help if you can, we’d be so grateful!
